We have a barred rock rooster that came with yellow legs very little red which is desirable. Now his red is increasing and I am wondering if it is the feed he is getting. He is on Nutrena Poultry layer because his hens work so hard and need the layer feed. Any suggestions on what to feed or what to do? Thanks

It's probably just hormones. My roosters will gain a lot of red in their legs in the spring as the mating season is kicking in.

They say for brighter yellow corn and marigold works.

That makes total sense to me! Thanks for the info and suggestion. We are trying really hard to get show birds and when the red started coming I was frustrated. He is really into his hens right now so I can see what you are saying.

Just seconding what Egghead said--it's usually hormonal.
