Red legs after scaly leg mites?!

My chickens had a case of scaly leg mites and we got an old toothbrush and scrubbed their legs with white vinegar. Then, we lathered it in coconut oil. After a series of days, I noticed their legs were turning slightly pinkish. I will upload photos when I can. Is it an allergic reaction?

It's possible that the vinegar may have irritated their legs.
