We are on our second batch of red rangers as meat birds. One of them would look like a red ranger if I were color blind. He's the same size and shape/proportion (as far as we can tell). They're all approximately 5 1/2 weeks old. Any ideas what we may have here?

Definitely a little cockerel.........closest guess I would have is a red sex link. He seems to be keeping pace on growth with your meaties.....

They came from Murray McMurray Hatchery. They believe he may be a phoenix but I couldn't find phoenix photos that look like him.

I would also guess Red Sex-Link. However, he is heavier in body than Red Sex-Links are, so I'm not sure.

Could he be a genetic "whoopsie," like blue lobsters? Or do chickens not work that way?

    Possibly a color mutation.
