red spots in black feathering

    i have a black orpington rooster and he has a couple red spots in his feathers. What do you think this could be?

    Sounds like insufficient melanising genes. That is quite common in blacks. Most often in males, in the hackles or shoulders.

    ok what kind of gene??? lol.... BIG WORDS... but ya thats where it is. one on his shoulder and one on the back of his neck i believe.

    ok what kind of gene???

    That's just a word to refer to non specific genes which give more black pigment in the plumage. [​IMG]

    oh ok. i see... so there is a deficiency so red spots occur
