Red, a Jersey Giant/ Gold laced wyandotte X is very handsome and my husband says he's a keeper. Red's getting his own digs and has 3 Americana hens that have decided to shack up with him but I am wondering if I were to look for a potential mate what might make a nice mix with him. He has the size of the JG.

RIRs, Buff Orps, even some black hens would make pretty offspring from that handsome guy!

Just mix it up and see what ya get!

I'd suggest getting some heavy, stocky breeds for this big pretty boy, so he doesn't crush 'em with his giant chicken love. [IMG]

Just saying, he might make a little bantam girl go squish. [IMG]

BLRW would go awesome with him [IMG] Also maybe some Salmon Faverolles or Blue Wheaten birds

Quote:Could not agree more [IMG] I have been trying to rehome some younger laying hens that are smaller in build and replace with a few Jersey Giant hens since dad "Gus" is a JG and same large size. Just want to see if I can keep the nice color WOW factor going if I get good potential cross hens for him.

Quote:Had not thought of the BLRW option until you mentioned it but that would be something to consider. This chicken "thing" can really grow if your not eating what's in the backyard [IMG] before you know it there are 30 birds out there.

Or a 150 [IMG] can't fix the problem until you admit it [IMG] I'm a birdaholic
