-March 29, 2017 I made my first ever BYC thread, looking for information on the safety of my 3 (what was 4) baby ducklings who had been wrongfully hurt by my neighbors son. my husband had mistakenly left the barn turned brooder unlocked, and he got in and attempted to drown my four 2 week old ducks which I was unsure of. One (Welsh harlequin) was dead. one (cayuga male) was barely hanging on. he was completely limp, gasping for air with water dripping from his beak and mouth as if it were rain. another one (unknown crested) was completely submerged in water, with the exception of his head. he barely had his beak above water. and his neck was limp as well. the fourth (little cayuga female) was completely afloat but was shivering and trembling quite terribly. i got the water out of the male cayuga first and instructed my husband to hold him under a heat lamp for almost 2 hours. the cayuga began holding his own head up and began pecking my husband, trying to get free. we had the idea of naming him Moses and thankfully to the kind people of byc that's the name we chose to stick with, sisince it means saved from the water. I got the crested boy all dried off and made sure to get all the water out of him as well and placed him in a dry box with a heat lamp and some vitamin water along with some food. my husband named him beavis since he was such a funny looking duck, he needed a funny name. right after I did the same for the cayuga girl, whom we originally called teensy, but soon changed it to Ezzy short for Esmeralda due to her beauty. I carted them all inside, where i had set up a nice warm dry brooder for them so I could keep and eye on them. well thanks to a few people from this sight (one especially miss Lydia) and my persistence, the 3 made it. now I am here to post updated pictures. From them up to now. still unsure what beavis is, but he is a marvelous creature. he is the white and gray crested. Ezzy is the one who loves the camera and Moses is the most gorgeous shy one. its funny because Ezzy is people duck and Moses and beavis stick together and keep to themselves while Ezzy is busy trying to get her people to come swim with her. enjoy my beautiful pictures of my beautiful birds.
