    Hi all,

My girlfriend is a veterinarian and a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. She volunteered to write the chapter about avian TCVM techniques for a textbook that her instructor is publishing. Her chapter is a huge undertaking and she is down to the wire with her final (5th or 6th) deadline being in a few days. I've taken hundreds (thousands?) of photos of wild birds and of our peacocks, Mo, Larry and Curly. Unfortunately none of these birds has agreed to one pose in particular, with their cloaca or vent exposed. Seriously, what prudes! If you have such a photo Cindy would be very grateful to use it and to give you credit for the photo. "Our" peacocks are mostly feral so we can't handle them without really stressing them. I searched the web for photos but it's amazing how few photos of bird vents there are available. [IMG]

Here's a few photos of the boys:

I'm glad you enjoyed the peacock photos. These guys are a lot of fun to have around even if I do have to rinse the deck off frequently. These males are too young to sport the big tail feathers this year but I'm looking forward to the show next spring. [IMG]

I found a great photo of a pigeon showing the vent clearly, but I haven't had any luck contacting the photographer for permission. I'm posting that photo as one example of what we could use. The bird could be oriented differently as long as it's easy to see the vent in relation to the rest of the anatomy:

I also thought I should post a photo of teenage hormones in action:
