I got a call from my local shelter that a couple of stray hens in bad shape needed a home so I picked them up. One was clearly a barred rock but her brown friend stood taller but her body was much smaller. All of her leg and bottom feathers have been plucked out so it's very hard to determine what kind of chicken she is. Hoping you guys can help :)

The first pic is the night we got her and the next 2 are after we sprayed her with blu-kote to try to get her to stop pecking at her skin (also treated her for lice, mites, and worms because we don't know where they came from). And that last pic is her egg. So what do y'all think?

I dont know breed , sorry. I just wanted to say I would of swore that was a rooster until you showed the egg. she must be pretty old. I think I am also seeing leg mites. I am glad you took them in.

Oh yeah, I totally thought she was a rooster too! But we separated them to check and she laid those lovely eggs 4 out of the 6 days we have had her so far!
What makes you think leg mites? That's one thing I haven't dealt with yet and I want to make sure I don't expose my flock to something creepy :)

the scales on her legs look like they are raised up some. could be just the picture. older hens are prone to them as well.
