I'm not exactly sure where to put this, so bare with me lol. I am interested in adopting an ex battery hen, or a hen who just needs a fresh start, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it. I live in Mississippi, and there are absolutely NO rescues of any kind around here! Does anyone know of any rescues around the upper part of Mississippi?

God bless you for looking to help a rescue.

Try your local Humane Society - they can probably help you out. Check this article out - it has some information about rescues:
    http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/chickens/tips/adopting_chickens.html

Another good one with tips on how to buy a few chickens at the end of their laying period (don't call them "battery hens"):

I read an article a while ago at http://www.tourdcoop.com/blog/2013/04/hen-rescues.html -- try sending email to [email protected]

    Try these guys: http://animalplace.org/helping-hens-rescue
They also have this page: http://animalplace.org/adoptable_birds.html

Unfortunately, (and sorry to pop anyone's bubble) I think McDonalds gets a lot of the commercial layers and turns them into McNuggets.

Good luck! I hope you save a few!
