    stop the presses!
    big news,
    i finally got an egg!!!!

buttercup, the sicilian buttercup hen i pulled out of the los angeles county shelter system on tuesday, laid me an egg this morning.

it is the VERY FIRST egg i've receive from any chicken.
it sounds corny but, actually, i was touched.

i was trying to figure out if i was going to keep buttercup as my very own or if i would seek a good forever home for her (i've been pulling chickens and roos out of local shelters and finding them homes because they don't get much exposure in the shelters and so tend simply to sit there for months until they are euthanized to make way for new animals).

well, this seals the deal. buttercup is here to stay.

    what a gal.

I get that feeling too every time I see that "another" girl has started laying.

    She is really beautiful.
I plan on getting at least one Buttercup girl when I order more chicks, in another month or so.
