I have nine juvenile chickens in a pen with a hardware cloth floor and several wooden surfaces to stand on an a dust bath in a pan. Today was very cold (<10 F) and when I got home the juveniles where complaining too me acting cold. I placed three flakes of hay in with them and they all promptly got onto the hay and started to settle on it as if to sleep. First birds produced a sound not unlike they produce when getting ready to dust bath.
