Have been raising chickens for eggs for 35 years on and off. Since retirement, I've been raising them for meat and hatching my own stock. Currently I raise around 100 birds a year (batches of 25 quarterly). It works out to chicken twice a week on average.
We currently raise Delawares and Barred Rocks and maintain breeding stocks of both. The chickens constitute one of the major legs of our permaculture system. Providing fertilizer, food, leftover disposal and entertainment.
We've been using BYC as an information source for sometime and finally feel we may be able to offer something back.
