I have two Red Sex Link hens purchased early this spring. They have begun laying and I have witnessed one of the hens lay an olive colored egg twice now. I know they are a cross breed but from what I have researched they should lay brown eggs. Any ideas?

Not a red sexlink then. A new hatchery mix looks a lot like a red sexlink, but really is an EE. Annoying, complicated, but true. A picture of her may help though.

@LadiesAndJane you mentioned the EE that looked like a clone of a sexlink I believe.
@Overo Mare @Rhodebar Lover You two always seem to keep track of hatchery "breeds"

She is an EE, I just forgot what "special" name they gave for the mix.

There are all kinds of crosses that lay green eggs these days.

What Hatchery did you get them from? They could be one of those new hybrids like Murray McMurray's Whitening True Green or something.

Yep, I would bet they're Whiting True Greens. They look a lot like Red Sexlinks
