Rhode Island Red chicks...

Is there any way to sex Rhode Island Red chicks, other than vent sexing, at 1 week old?

Not really. I can usually tell the gender of a Rhodie by 4 weeks.

Heres a pic of the RIR chicks and a Silkie chick mixed in.

I read that RIR pullets get in their wing & tail feathers sooner than roos? Any truth to that? I tried to pick more chicks with wing & tail feathers coming in. The one closest to the front has the least.

I got the chicks from TSC and they didn't seem real sure about the age. I'm guessing they are about 1 week old...any input on age?

I heard the ones with that seem darker are more likely pullets. That was a recent post on one of my threads asking how to sex BR's but he said it also works with RIR's.

I went with that too when picking them out, they looked darker than the others. Forgot to mention that....oooppppsss.
