Hi everyone! This is Piglet, my "Production Red" pullet. I have been wondering lately if she is a Production Red or a RIR? Here is my RIR "Penny":

I would say they were both production reds, but they may just be hatchery quality RIR. RIR should be a much richer and shinier dark mahogany/chestnut colour in my opinion.

x2 Many hatchery RIRs are no longer meeting even close to the RIR standards :(, I have a few hatchery RIRs that look a lot like my Production Reds.

The problem with hatchery RIRs isn't that they are not purebred more that they aren't being careful on breeding certain traits.
