Brother's friend says our Rhode Island Red chicks aren't Rhode Island Reds... Now, this is also the boy who sold us two male Easter Eggers as female Amaraucanas, so I'm going to ask the board.
Boy says they're "Red Feathered Sussex," or something like that. Help?

The chicks are about 6 weeks old.

Anyone care to help clear this up? Thanks in advance!

They look like rhode island reds or black tailed buff marans to me. I have one red and two marans and I thought my marans were reds until recently. It's so hard to tell until they are a little bit older!

That what you said here and the look of them makes me think that they are a Rhode Island Red /Sussex cross.
There not "pure" Rhode Island Reds.
