Wasn't expecting that out of a RIR- thought that was "bred out of them". We figured we'd give her a go at it though. Put 7 fresh, marked eggs under her yesterday.
Yea you can't tell the chickens not to do it. I had a Red Star which is a mix from a RIR go broody last year. It was like amazing. I tagged her leg so I could remember which one she was in case she did it again. Oh and she hatched out 3 beautiful babies (they were all roosters though) The daddy was a RIR also.

it ended badly- darn fox got into the pen and mauled her. I was so hurt and upset
Ohh im so sorry my neighbors had same exact situation (well they lost two and they werent broody it was a few weeks ago)
