I just had batch of chicks hatch that were RIR X Leghorn hybrid that were black , yellow, white, and all kinds of mixes with a little red ...They were supposed to be sex linked and I have no idea how to tell the gender.

When you breed two different types of chickens , you do not automatically get the offspring as sex linked. More often you get a barnyard mix or also referred to as mutts. That is mostly what I HAVE.

White leghorns cannot be used to make sex linked crosses, at least red sex link crosses, so unfortunately your chicks are not sex links. To quote the post that taught me about how to create sex links:

White birds that have the correct genotype can be used to make a sex linked cross but a breeder never knows if the white bird has the correct genotype. The authors advise concerning white birds and sex linked crossing is do not use white birds in sex linked crosses. White leghorns can not be used in any kind of color sex linked cross.

Rhode Island Red x White Leghorn will not give you sex-linked chicks because Leghorns are dominant white and do not carry a silver gene. Red Sex-Links are a cross between a red gene cock and a silver gene hen. Your male was the correct genotype, but Leghorns cannot be used in sex-linked crosses. There is always a potential chance that it may work with white birds, but is still strongly advised against.

If you got chicks out of that cross that is any other color other than white then your Leghorn is not a pure Leghorn.
Leghorns carry the Dominate White Gene and when crossed with a pure Rhode Island Red there offspring would be White with maybe some Black and or Gold (red) leakage.

Now if both breeds are pure then you can take a Leghorn Male and cross him with a Rhode Island Red Female and there offspring would be Sex-Linked.
Male offspring having slower feather growth than Females.

Note --- 98.99% of hatcheries do not sell pure stock. They breed/ cross there birds to be sexed at birth either by color or feather growth.
