My poor lovely rooster, Rocky died this previous saturday. The chickens were out of food so I went to go get some. When I came back, I put food in the container and placed it in the coop. The chickens happily ran towards it and began feasting. Rocky, who was perfectly healthy, started eating. I watched them and suddenly he jumps and began twisted and flailing his body around until he collapsed. I kept yelling at him to get up and held back tears but as he stiffed and straightened and turned purple, I knew he was gone. Not sure of the cause of death....could he have choked?

  2. When I read your post it sounded to me like your rooster may have had a heart attack. I am not a vet or blah blah blah. Your description to me sounded like a heart attack. I have seen many things sticking out of a chickens mouth, like frogs and hay and the like. They always seem to manage to get it down. Never seen or heard of your experience either.

    Sorry about your rooster.

I agree with Chick Charm--it sounds like he had a heart attack.
