A friend sent several "roos" over to me the other day. She doesn't want any roos in her coop, and I'm willing to dispatch them to my freezer at the appropriate time.
Two of them I am positive are roos, I've heard and seen them both crow:
But this third one I'm not sure of. The same age as the two above, born the beginning of March, yet the tail shape is different, the legs are yellow (of the other two, one has white legs, one has green), and I've not heard a crow yet out of it. Is it possible this is a hen? And if so, what's the breed? Or am I just hoping it's a hen and it is a roo who just hasn't yet crowed?
The comb and wattles aren't quite as big, it's not quite as big, although not much smaller, and I've never seen that tail raised in an upright position like the other two; hence the confusion on my part.
