My bet is on roo but I'm curious as to what you all think :) [IMG]

Silver Laced Wyandotte. Approximately 5.5 weeks old.

At 5.5 weeks, with wattles and fleshy comb, yeah, probably rooster.

However, it is still uniformly dark..SLW get a lot of white on the wings as adults.

I would wait it out but be prepared for roo especially if the comb keeps developing early.

EDITED TO ADD: and at third look, the comb is not that big and red appearing in all the photos...so I think you've just got to wait this one out.

I'm surprised by how dark he still is. But those white stripes in his feathers came up very quickly. So who knows. I'm still secretly hoping it's a girl but I'm preparing for a boy lol. The other two chicks we acquired at the same time (one BA and one RIR) have developed completely differently - but that could just be breed differences. The others wing feathers are different and they quickly developed tail feathers where this little guy is still working on his. *shrug*

In person his comb and beak look a lot more red. The pictures really aren't good but he didn't want to sit still so I had to snap what I could get before bedtime.

I would venture to guess roo. That's pretty young to have such well developed comb and waddles. If it were prancing around my yard anyway, I'd call it a "he" too ;)

In the last three or four days his little waddles popped up and he started developing a lot of red. I'm okay with him being a roo... maybe he can teach our Fred how to fertilize eggs again lol. But that's another can of worms...
