    This is our first time raising chickens and I think we have a rooster? What do you think?

    Too young, try a picture again when it's about 6 - 8 wks.

    There is nothing screaming cockerel about that headshot -- the comb is not all that prominent and, more importantly, is still flesh toned, and there are not noticeable wattles coming in yet either. That being said, it is early yet and this photo alone is not really sufficient for gender assessment. It is best to take a photo showing the whole bird in a natural, standing position that is taken from the side....this allows us to see the overall posture/build, etc.
