I have buff orpingtons about 8 weeks old now and there in the coop I made. I have a roost in there about 30 inches high and they do not go on it. Is this too high? I also have a roost out in the run which is only about 18 inches high and they love it. There always on it. should I lower the roost in the coop? Also I get up early and sometimes end up in bed before it gets dark. I have to go out in the run and try to get the chickens in the coop so I can shut the door for the night. Is this ok to do or do you think it will mess them up knowing when to go into the coop themselves. thanks

If you need the roost space then I would lower the roost. If you have enough space then leave it where it is, because eventually they'll use it. Sometimes I need to get my girls in the henhouse early, and that hasn't affected their ability to go in on their own. Good luck!
