Roost ??

Hi Everyone. I was wondering at what age can you add a roost to a brooder for chicks? And, is it suppose to be something round or flat?

Hi Chickaroo!

Last year, when we got our first day old chicks, I used scrap sections of 1" by 2" boards and tree limbs for roosts in the brooder. I added the roosts when they were around 2 weeks old.

Low tree branch roost...



Higher 1" by 2" roosts...

I now add the roosts before I add the chicks to make it easier on all of us. The first time I added the roosts, you'd have thought I was in the brooder swinging a hatchet instead of adding roosts, for the way they acted. LOL
