One time one of our younger roosters jumped a hen and our older boss rooster came over and jump kicked the young rooster off the hen. Any other rooster antics?

No rooster, but I have a pretty sassy alpha hen

A few minutes ago I was giving my broody (she just started sitting today and we haven't moved her yet) a last bit of food and water for the night. I wasn't facing the coop door, so I didn't see our Lakenvelder roo, who hates only me, come in and zero in on the apparently irresistable target of my behind. Sheesh, I haven't had a good old-fashioned butt-walloping like that since I was about 5 years old!

Mean old feathery piece of pure evil, he is.

One of my EE roos does protect me from the Lakenvelder- body slams him when he sees Satan's Minion come after me. Good boy!

Our head roo does this sweet little courting dance before he carefuly and slowly mounts a hen. Now the other two younger roo's have started picking up this tender courting behavior (that is when they can get away with it!) and there is no real fighting between the three. There is a strict pecking order, and even though I have three roos to nine hens there are no bare backs.

People say my roosters are weird.

Also the head roo has taught the other roosters to do a high pitch clucking sound when he finds food, which attracts the hens then he backs down and lets them have it. Once again the two younger roosters have picked up this habit from him.

It is a very peaceful and orderly flock, that is very efficient at wiping out any food sources in minutes like feathered locusts. The three roosters fan out on all sides of the girls and seem to almost work together. Does anyone else have multiple roosters that work together like his?

I had a rooster named General French Fry because when presented with a french fry he would march up to it, glare at it as if daring it to move. And when the fried potato strip didn't move he would spend a few minutes crowing and doing the wing dance around it. Then he would attempt to flog it only to gulp the entire greasy thing in one bite.

the oldchick, that is hilarious! You have to wonder what goes through their minute little brains.

KristyHall- as far as I know, most roosters do the food call and the tidbitting (when they pick up a piece of food and drop it over and over). A couple of mine do it more than others (I have 5 roos). . . one of mine does it for just about anything he finds, which is why the girls don't pay him much attention. My head roo only does it when there's really something to eat, and that's one reason why he's head roo among the flock. Each roo does have his little harem of hens that they generally stay with during free ranging, and they do all work together rounding up the hens each night to go back into the coop. It's pretty funny to see a hen hauling you-know-what all the way across the yard with a roo hard on her tail in the evenings. . . once she goes in the coop, everything is fine. They do take their jobs seriously!

No but I wish I did - would love to have more than one - so many of mine are beautiful

When my dog runs (Like when playing ball) Mikey Rooster will chase him like you wouldn't believe, trying to kick his butt. But the moment Puppy realizes he is being chased, he turns around and just looks at him. And Rooster runs off in terror.

My roo gets jealous when the hens all come running over to me so he will "pretend" to find good food & do his food call so the come running back to him. Sometimes I will mess with him by calling "chick chick chick" & the girls come back to me - then he will do his food call - then I will do my hen call....this could go on forever.
