Rooster comb black/brown patch

I have a 5 year old Australorp with the patch on his comb and I'm wondering if anyone is able to identify it visually.

Looks like an injury and scab, maybe got caught on some wire.

Does look like a scab. Roosters have a nasty habit of banging their combs up. Especially when they fight.

Thanks, it looked a bit different than other comb injuries has had before so I wasn't sure. He is only with hens, but they will peck at anything that stands out. Will treat it with an antibiotic ointment and see how things go.

Would this have made him shake his head a lot?

It might have, if it stung. Could have been injured all sorts of ways, and if there was blood then the hens would peck it and make it worse.

Any way he could have access to another rooster? They are especially hard on each other’s combs when they fight
