im sorry about your boy! I am still amazed at how resilient chickens are. My only suggestion with the bleeding would be to bring him in for a few days, do warm epsom salt soaks and apply bluecote (May have spelled that wrong), and wrap them. I only suggest that to prevent infection since they’re open wounds now. Once they all heal over he should be fine to walk without bandages because he still has the pads of his feet. Please keep us updated, I’m sure he is in great hands!

I would agree with soaking the stumps, but instead of BluKote which has alcohol that stings, I would use chlorhexidene (Hibiclens) or betadine. A clean towel for bedding would keep dirt and pine shavings out of it.

I have another suggestion. If you edit your topic title to include :Update: spontaneous auto-amputation, it will garner way more views when people search for material on this topic. You have some very valuable photos and this thread will be a great resource.

If you can't make the edit work, notify the mods for help and they will take care of altering the title.

I have him within the coop in a kennel large enough that he can stand up and move around. He is on a clean towel and I will continue swapping them out so his feet remain as clean as possible. I haven’t soaked or applied anything to the wounds yet only because he seems to be removing his own toes. He has a very strong appetite and is drinking more water than he usually would. He is still very engaging. Took pictures of his feet today, as gruesome as they may seem I actually think they look quite good considering. He seems to be quite mobile on them. Nature never ceases to amaze me.
I have struggled with figuring out how to edit the title of this post, I have emailed the website for help. I completely agree, a more specific title would be helpful for those possibly going through something similar.
I really really appreciate all the advice. I really feel like there is a team looking after him.

Yeah I agree on removing the “danglers” . He was doing a good job on his own but I think it’s time to help.
