I went out this morning to check my chickens and I found my Rooster was dead.I'm not sure what happened but he was laying in the run and his throat had been eaten into about the depth of his esophagus.Just this area had been eaten.Nothing had crawled in under the fence.Could he have died and my hens had eaten on him or is there a predator that does this.I need some ideas please.Thanks.

My first thought is that a dog got him, but dogs seem to like to kill more than one chicken at a time when they get the urge. Something could have sampled him and then decided for whatever reason that it didn't like him. Just my opinion, but I would say it sounds more like a predator than the other birds pecking at him. A predator would go for the throat region to kill.

Anyone else have an idea? [IMG]
