Rooster Has Bad Scaley Leg Mites. How Do I Start The Healing Process?

I need to know where to start on the removal of these mites. It is so bad you can break off pieces of it. Do I scrape them off? Do I soak them off? I not a bad mother, I got him free from an aution this way.

Seen a lot worse... soak it in warm water, remove as much crust as possible (there will be slight bleeding) then coat the legs.

A long time ago somebody gave me a bird with much worse. I coated her legs in vaseline every other day until it was gone. Most of it was cleared up in a week or so. Mineral oil can be used too. Fill a jar with mineral oil and dip each leg in it up to the feathers. The oil doesn't stick as long as the vaseline so do it every night. Spray or paint something on the roost so the bird isn't reinfected.
