I have a mixed flock of 17 hens. In the last two weeks, I have caught one of the hens, a RIR, mount a Cinnamon Queen. It appears to always be the same CQ that she mounts. Could the RIR possibly be a rooster?? She looks like a hen to me, I have two RIR and they look identical.

Many hens mount other hens as a form of dominance in the pecking order. Yes, it is possible that it could be a rooster, but it may also be a hen. Pictures could help.

Here's a picture of one of the RIRs. The other looks just like it.

Pullet if under a year old, Hen if older.

Ditto the dominance mounting.....mounting isn't always about sex/reproduction.
