My rooster is making a funny sound. He didn't start making it till he began mating with my new sex link hens. He makes this long croaking sound, that lasts for about 10 seconds or more. It sounds somewhere between sing-song and a high-pitched clearing of the throat. Is this normal?

Roosters have an entire vocabulary ranging from: here's a good nest site/try it out, aerial predator, ground predator, I have a goody for you, YES I'm here, stay alert, and the list goes on. If he is eating and drinking and acting normally, it is most likely just part of 'rooster vocabulary'.

Well thank you. He is very healthy, and we have a very happy flock, it seems.
