Rooster or Hen??

    Hi all - can anyone tell if this is a hen or rooster? This is our newest addition to the chicken fam and we just aren't sure..anyone with experience know how to tell for sure? Thanks! [​IMG]

    Look at the feathers on the back. Now, compare those feathers to the hens in the back of the picture. Notice anything a bit different? He is just starting to get his male specific hackle and saddle feathers. They are the long, thin, pointed feathers that roosters have on the back and neck.

    Right! Once someone points out exactly what is different, and you have something to compare to, it becomes obvious. And you wonder how you ever missed seeing it.
