Hi there I was wondering if anyone out there is able to help with the sexing of this Lavender Araucana please. We pruchased it as pullet but is 'piggy backing' the other pullets! It is 22 weeks old. Cheers Motherhubbard.
I don't have this breed of chooks, but I would say a hen...but that's just a guess. it's a beautiful chook anyway
Yes, I think pullet too...but Araucana??? Your bird has a crest, and looks to have a beard/muff, and definitely a tail...Araucanas have ear tufts, no crests, no beards/muffs, and no tails (rumpless). It looks to be a mix with an Ameraucana (beard/muff/pea comb), and some crested bird (maybe a Silkie even...how many toes and what color is the skin), thus an Easter Egger. But it is not an Araucana. Very pretty bird whatever the mix. My thoughts. Lady of McCamley
Hi there thank you for your reply. We are in NZ and have the tailed variety of Lavender Araucana which seems to be the European standard. I have attached a link for you if you are interested Kind regards motherhubbard http://www.araucana.org.uk/breed_standards.html
Thank you for the link...of course you are following European standards...silly of me not to notice your location. Very pretty bird no matter the name. Lady of McCamley
