I had BC Marans and Splash Marans all living in the same coop til a week ago when I put each breed in their own pens. Up til that point they had all been comingling including the roosters. How long until the old Roosters sperm will be overtaken by the new roosters. In other words I know the hens have a storage area for sperm that can live up to 3 weeks. If the new rooster is making fresh donations to the hen will that overtake the old ones or do I need to wait the 3 weeks to be sure. I would like to be able to start collecting eggs to incubate but dont want to end up with them mixed breed.

I would wait a few weeks, but I'm not an expert on that. All we have are muts. [IMG]

Three weeeks is supposed to be it according to all the experts. I always give them a month. Better to be carefull than careless.......Pop

Three weeks is standard practice. You could go more or less depending how crucial it is to you that the chicks be purebred, and also depending on how difficult it'll be to detect if they aren't (depending on the breeds, colors, etc of the particular roos in question)

    Good luck, have fun,
