Rooster with leg injury - Emergency?

Our rooster has one leg that is very swollen, he is not bearing weight on it. A few of the scales are flaky and raised. No obvious signs of injury, no cuts or blood. HELP. Before I drive a very mean rooster to the vet and spend hundreds of dollars - I need advice!

what kind of roo? did you look at the bottom of his foot? could the scale problem be mites?

Full size Rooster - mixed breed. No bumble foot, and I don't see mites. I think he has hurt the leg getting down from his nighttime roost. He insists on getting up in the rafters instead of the roosting bar. I would imagine the 10+ foot drop was not the best for him.

Tonight the leg looks more swollen, and he still is not using it well. I am wondering if I should isolate him in a cage where he isn't putting weight on it. How do you make a rooster stay off his feet?
