Rooster with very gnarly feet

My 4 year old has broken one off chasing off something he wanted to kill for upsetting his hens it grew back but I am going to have to do some research as something needs to be done about the length of the one that hasn't been broken/fallen off , would be easier to do something to shorten his spur than make saddles for each of my hens

My rooster is a White Rhode Island Red and has developed old man feet. He is only 3 years old. One of his spurs broke off yesterday. Does anyone know what this might be
Doesn't matter other than he's a rooster but there are Rhode Island Reds and Rhode Island Whites It is nothing to worry about if they break off but if they are too long they start to tear up the hens when they mate

I have heard of people taking a pair of dikes or side cutters and nipping off a portion of the spur, like you would a toenail. Just have to be careful not to hit the living tissue and cause bleeding.

I've also heard of dremeling them like you would for a dog, but the dremel can get hot so I would be careful of you decide to go that route.

I've never had to trim a roosters spurs, they usually dont get to hang around that long here.
