Rooster won't let me near the egg!

I am so excited, I got the first egg from my Bantam Cochin .

I tried to get to the nest box to see it and my mild little rooster ate me up! I tried again and again and he fought me off. The hen was off the nest and walking around. Is this normal and do I just let him know who is boss? I hope I don't have this fight every time I go to the hen house!

Take a 5 gal. bucket with you, and a brick or other weight. Put it over him, weigh it down with the brick, then do what you have to do. Let him out when you're done.Saves fighting with him, which is trauma for both of you.
