Rooster?

Lots of us keep roosters with our layers. I've done so for 20 years and never had a nasty surprise when I cracked an egg.

chickens are different than mammals with regards to reproduction. Chickens are much easier to manage, IMO. The rooster can mate with the hens all he wants, and yep the eggs will be fertile. But, embryonic development won't start until/unless the eggs are held about 100 degrees for at least 3 days. Up til then, you really can't tell the difference. There is a subtle change to the yolk, but it's difficult to see and takes an experienced eye. No difference in taste, etc.
