How old is the bird? I'm guessing in the 3 month range? If so, cockerel, and it's all about the comb.

I'm guessing cockerel. This is based off of the large red comb and patchy coloring.

I'm new to chickens. They were supposed to be RIR pullets and 4-5 months old - 6 weeks ago. This guy took total advantage of me. "He" has a lot of black in him. I think they are all just mixed breeds. My 3 white leghorns have black and beige in them? I'll post a few more pictures. My leghorn that is laying has a huge comb that lays over to the side. My leghorn rooster has a huge comb that sticks straight up. My other leghorn barely has a comb at all. More pictures coming.

This photo makes it plain that it's a cockerel-pointy fringe of saddle feathers hanging off the side in front of the tail.
