Ok
I found a egg on the ground today. I am pretty sure it was not there yesterday it was in an area where I walk alot.
the ground was wet because it rained the day before.
Anyway the first thing I noticed was it felt lighter than a normal egg, then I noticed if smelled a little funny.
so I shook it a bit and could tell something was wrong with it for sure.
I wanted to see what was Inside so I just taped on it 1,2, and on the 3rd Tap it exploded all over my face and it was not at all near my face. And it was loud like a firecracker.
the smell was downright EVIL! I wanted to puke.
what would cause this? Can a chicken lay a rotten egg?
Also I forgot to add it was green

Not likely, but possible that a chicken can lay a rotten egg.
Do you have chickens that lay green eggs?
Egg could have been laid elsewhere long ago and moved into your path by a predator.

Yesterday I would have sed that it was possible, but today I found 2 more in the same area right outside the coop they both smelled.
I wasn't taking any chances this time I threw them over the fence one looked normal the other was green inside. They lay brown eggs.
I have three broody hens could they have had them saved up inside them?

I'd be isolating my hens in crates or pens until I found who was laying them.......
....meanwhile searching on rotten egg laying.
Could be some kind of infection inside the bird.
