I just got my second set of ducks. They came from TS so I don't know the breeds. Anyway to tell if they are Rouen vs mallard? Pics are with two wk old Pekins. So the babies look tiny! Lol

Thanks!!!

This last picture is from TS the day I got them. I believe those are Pekins with them. Same age most likely.

I read here that rouens have two eye stripes, mallards have one.

But the eye stripes are not always obvious, and someone wrote that sometimes mallards can have a stripe and a dot.

If I had to call it, not being an expert, I would say rouen.

Can you take a close up pic of their heads? Some look like they have one eye stripe and a dot and some look like they have two. If they are the same age as the pekins I would say mallards since they are so much smaller than the pekins.

Oops I read your post wrong! I thought they were the same age as the two week old pekins! My bad :).

I have 25 mallard ducklings that I'm rehabbing. These r true wild mallards that were abandoned. Some have just a single stripe and others have a stripe and dot. You will know for sure what u have in about 3-4 months. :/

Oh my!!! They are adorable!! So many! How do you contend with the mess? I just have the four and I can't wait for them to be outside. Although I'm going to miss the noise. :(

Thanks for the info. I'll just have to wait it out and hope they don't try to fly away this fall.

How did you end up with so many babies to rescue? What will you do with them?

I volunteer for MS wildlife rehabilitation. I take in all birds except birds of prey. 11 of them were found abandoned in a school parking lot. 14 had fallen in a storm drain in the middle of a parking lot. I tried to get them to the momma but she flew away.

I have these guys in the garage. As soon as it get a little warmer they will go outside. I have 2 pens with a coop in each. It's not warming up this week though so I have to clean this out everyday.

Once they are old enough I will release them all together, probably at the city park.
