We lost our barred rock early this morning. I had a pending order with MPC and was trying to figure out a 2nd chick to get since the EEs weren't available. I emailed them after looking at their website & saw that they had BRs available on my shop date. They called me a couple of hours later and said that I'd get another black australorp and a BR.

Afterwards DBF, who doesn't know about the BA and BR (just the Polish) turned to me & said, "What's the deal with Brahmas?". He was researching chicks! He wants to pick out a variety to add to the brooder when we get the Polish.

Chicken math according to me: Polish + BA + BR = 3
    And according to him: Polish + ? = 2

I have a feeling we're going to wind up with 4 chicks next month. We barely have room for 3 more. Hrm... what to do... what to do...

According to chicken math you are only getting a 1/2 a chick. You need more.

How right you are! I should go add to the order or get some at the feed store, right?

    Yup.

    Here's another chicken math rule:

Once you have over 100 chickens, you subtract the first two digits from the last number.

So, if you have 119 chickens, you actually only have seven.

100 chickens would be -1. Better fill up that black hole of a coop! [IMG]

Our urban lot is way too small for "7" chickens.

But pre-math we'll have 8 in another month. [IMG]
