What is the best way to graft chicks into a broody? What is the oldest the new chicks can be before she will realize that she was sitting on a golfball for 3 weeks and couldn't have chicks that big? I'm bringing in some silkies and it would be easier to have her take care of them then to follow them around the henhouse for a couple weeks making sure they arent getting pecked.

The hen will not usually accept outside chicks over a few days old, but you can try it, and watch what happens.

My two silkie hens will accept chicks as their own any time whether they're broody or not.
