We had gotten 5 little BR babies that were 4 weeks old, 10 days ago. One was smaller than the others and seemed a little shaken up about moving to a new home. He was super sweet and cuddly and over the last 3 days he just seemed to slow down. The only thing wrong was a touch of diarrhea and even that wasn't the rampant bloody poo you get with coccidiosis. He was not on medicated feed when he came here but started on it when he arrived. We started the milk treatment 3 days ago; pulled him out of the group and brought him into the warmer house. I gave him drops of nutri drench and sugar water. He even had a stuffed duckie to keep him company. We tried so hard to help him. This part of chicken keeping really gets me.
Is it possible he already had a cocci problem when he came here? The chicks were on wire where they were and were put on dirt at my place (hence my using medicated feed.) Should I automatically use amprolium in their water in this situation? I have never had a problem before now. All of the others are doing great and are happy as can be, especially since we are hovering over them all the time now. They love the attention.
