    Hey there! I am new to keeping chickens and am about 10 weeks in with a mixed flock started from day-old chicks. I’m learning their personalities and pecking order and everybody seems to be doing well. BUT... I’ve noticed one of my 2 salmon faverolles has chronically wet/scruffy muff/beard feathers. The other does not. They are definitely at the bottom of the order, but I don’t see any overt aggression or bullying. Anything to worry about? Problem or just bad hair day (week!) or sloppy drinker? Photo shows both on the same day. Juliet (on the right) looks like this all day. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice. B5F5F5C7-28AE-4F05-9596-5D1F02D4C58B.jpeg

    Looks as if Juliet is a sloppy drinker and the other is more fastidious.

    Thanks! Since it’s always like that recently I just wanted to ask... make sure I wasn’t missing something I needed to attend to.

    Does her beak close correctly, or is it a little odd? It looks different from her sister's, and may just not work well.

    Besides the one having a little cross beak some Favs are just pigs when it comes to eating and drinking.
    It is usually an adult issue though, pullets are typically very clean so her beak is probably making her dribble.:)
    Your clean one will likely end up looking like your dribbly one when they mature.
    My pullets look pristine, my adult hens look just like your girl lol!
    The only dry beard is on the roo.

    @Chickassan - I have to say your Faverolles are gorgeous! I looked and looked for some and could't find any which is how I got into the Laced Orpingtons, but if I ever manage to build another pen, you'd better believe I'm going to pester you for eggs. lol

    Well thank you! Just say the word and you've got it.
    This last batch of kids did turn out very pretty, their mom did them justice.:)
    @HamletAndEggs Notice how clean? That won't last.:D

    Thanks so much! I didn’t think about dribbling from a beak issue. She seems healthy and happy... so now, thanks to reassurance from the BYC gang I’m happy too! :love They ARE beautiful, even at 10 weeks old... and so sweet. Thanks again! 52967434-7F36-4B03-BBC2-1E35CCEF7902.jpeg
