Hey everyone! New here, and I would like to know what's everyone's opinion on sand and wood shavings? Which is better?

I would like to use sand in my chicken run but I don't know which to buy, I was purchasing some more chicken wire at my local hardware store and noticed they had construction sand, would this be fine? Please let me know, thank you!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I like to use both in my coop but for the run I would recommend sand. The wood shavings would likely blow away out in the run. They can also become quite messy in wet weather in my opinion. I would certainly use the play sand though just to be sure it's safe.

Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome!

As you have already received some great advice and I use the deep litter method in my run, I will just wish you all the best.
