Hello,
I have 3 sapphire gem chicks. When I got them they all had deep dark heads and came from a pullet bin and all about the same developmentally. Two of the chicks have tail feathers now that are about 2 inches long. All have dark legs, two have pinkish yellow toes but very dark from the ankles up. The other as yellow soles I believe. The third chick has been kind of slow to feather. This one is a chunker and you can see peeks of skin as “her” girth exceeds to coverage of her downy fluff. She eats well (obviously) and seems healthy. I would love to hear of others’ experiences with these cuties. They are incredibly loveable.

Maybe one is a Pullet n two are cockerals???? Please don’t take my word I’m guessing n I really don’t have the expertise to even guess. I’m just giveng it a guess. They are cuties! I tried to buy 4 sapphire gems from tsc but didn’t work out to well none were sapphire gems , maybe next year.

Might be the other way around I’m thinking. But I saw another post somewhere that of course I can’t find where the person had a big fat baby chick that was a slow bloomer that did end up being a pullet. They are supposed to be sex-linked and all had very dark heads— no yellow crown, no yellow H that would indicate male— BUT there are other stories about this not always being a sure thing. 😂 They are super sweet and downright cuddly. I hope you are able to get some.

How old are they? Is it possible the third one is a little younger than the other two?
I’d say all three of them are pullets. They look a lot like the ones I had at roughly the same age.

Thank you! I really hope so. It IS possible two are slightly older but they were all pretty indistinguishable when I brought them home. I think my Easter Eggers are at least a week older than the Gems. The Gems are bigger than the EE’s now though. I’m guessing but I think they are about 4 weeks or so give or take.

They're so cute! At 4wo I'd imagine you'd start seeing more noticeable signs if they were cockerels, especially since even the pullets (IME) have fairly large combs.

Yes! That’s another thing I have noticed from looking at other people’s photos— even the pullets seem to have pronounced combs early and slightly more pinkish than say Easter Eggers. I also noticed what looks like dark gray barring on medium gray (to my eyes) but someone said that’s the lace effect coming in— that true barring has thinner bands. The pullets seem more upright than a lot of other breeds/hybrids.
