Sassy chicken body slams me when I enter coop!

A hen who flies at your face and tries to eat your face off is wanting loving? And such behavior by that animal is not cruel?

Disciplining an aggressive animal to prevent future aggression is cruel? And such a person who does not allow agressive behavior is an idiot? Seriously???? And such a person who does not allow animal aggression should not have chickens? Where do such misdirected thought processes come from? Pity the child who encounters such a hen who wants loving.

The key to disciplining aggressive or obnoxious chickens is to get them to associate the bad behavior with something unpleasant. Getting a peck on the back or startling them with a tap on the butt with a fly swatter is not pleasant. If you time these actions to coincide with the bad behavior the chicken will quickly associate their behavior with an unpleasant experience. They are remarkably quick learners.

Rule #1 Inflict no pain. Rule #2 Inflict no injury Rule #3 If you feel a behavior needs to be punished, then cull the bird in a humane manner.

If your hen jumps at you again, try holding her down to the ground until she stops struggling. This shows her that you are dominate and that she isn't allowed to attack you. If she still continues to do this even after being held down, try chasing her around.
