I’ll try my best to answer these questions we best (and as descriptively) as I can...
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Dolly is a Satin Silkie Bantam. Yes, she’s lighter than the others but it’s because she’s built smaller. I wouldn’t say she’s underweight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Dolly stands in one spot, starts bobbing her head up and down, and then walks backwards. Sometimes she’ll shake her head and walk forward; but most often she walks backwards.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
A few weeks now ( ) but today it’s worse than usual.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No, not at all.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
I bought her (along with some others that died from Cocci, which they had when I got them but I didn’t know it at the time...) at a poultry auction a few months ago, so I’m not sure if anything happened beforehand. She was normal when I got her, but in the past few weeks she’s been having some strange behavior.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She eats and drinks very well. She eats flock raiser (mixed in with starter grower) and drinks... water.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Slightly runny, I will get pictures soon.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
N/A
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
My hope is that I can treat it.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
Will post pictures very soon!
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Pine Shavings and Dirt floor.
If more information is needed, I will happily add it! I will be getting pictures soon.
Thanks everyone,
Kayla.
