Is it ok to put sawdust as a base in the run?

Yes, but not for biddies. Only for mature birds and make sure there isn't any toxic sawdust. No Walnut or other types of trees that cause birds distress or poisoning.

Sawdust works great for adults, especially if you plan to compost. Just be aware that you may need to completely clean out the run every so often. And if you don't have really good drainage on the site, it may get a little muddy eventually.
